Anxiety disorders affect 40 million adults in the United States alone— approximately 18.1% of the population. Though these results are staggering, it’s not too surprising given our demanding schedules balancing careers, families, relationships, and finances. These elements contribute to an ever-constant feeling of anxiety for many adults and put our overall well-being at risk.
In response, there has been a growing interest in wellness products and activities to combat these feelings of stress and anxiety. CBD and yoga are among the most popular methods— with their popularity growing rapidly over the last several years. CBD has been scientifically proven to help with anxiety, in addition to relieving pain, decreasing inflammation, and promoting positive moods. Similarly, many people practice yoga as a way to calm down, go inward, and let go. But recently, people have been combining these two practices and the results have been astounding.
Bringing CBD Onto the Mat
CBD and yoga have very similar benefits. Both can help you clear your head, ease aches and tension in your body and heighten your mood. But when used together, these benefits are enhanced, helping you feel your absolute best.
CBD’s natural de-stressing properties work in conjunction with yoga’s focus on mindfulness, deep breathing, and relaxation. Together, both will help you eliminate lingering thoughts and clear your mind. CBD also provides pain relief to help with sore joints and muscles. Taking a dose of CBD before yoga will enhance your stretches and movements, and reduce post-practice soreness. Lastly, CBD and yoga can work together to heighten positive feelings. CBD is known as a natural mood enhancer, and many yogis note having a blissful feeling after a flow session. When combined, CBD and yoga can produce long-lasting positive feelings.
Getting Started
If interested in combining CBD and yoga for yourself, there are several options to get started. If you are not already familiar with CBD products, tinctures, gummies, and salves is a great option that can easily be taken prior to yoga. Tinctures are particularly popular because they are the fastest-acting of CBD products, taking about 15 minutes to take effect, and can easily be mixed with food or taken directly. Gummies are the tastiest option and come in a variety of flavors. They take a bit longer to reach the system, about 35 minutes but are easy to transport and dose. Salves and topicals are another great way to incorporate CBD into your routine and can be applied after a shower, before or after yoga, or just before bed to relieve aches and pains.
