With travel slowly starting to open back up in the post-pandemic world and spring break or holiday weekends fast approaching, people are starting to consider leaving their homes for socially distanced time out of town.
But what do these loosened restrictions mean for your CBD products? Read on to learn more about traveling around California, and the US, with CBD:
The Legality of CBD
On a federal level, the 2018 Agriculture Improvement Act, or the Farm Bill, legalized CBD that is derived from hemp and contains no more than 0.3% THC (by dry weight).
Despite this national legalization, states are still able to enforce individual laws and policies regarding CBD and marijuana.
In California specifically, marijuana has been legalized for both medical and recreational use (for more information, see Senate Bill 420, 2003, and California Food and Agricultural Code, Division 24, 2016).
That means that CBD products, whether they are sourced from hemp or marijuana, are legal in California.
If you are traveling within state lines or visiting national parks, most CBD products are fine to have.
Flying Domestically with CBD
Many travelers get paranoid about bringing CBD products on a plane. Hopefully, it comes as a relief to learn that traveling with most hemp-based CBD products is completely fine.
According to TSA guidelines as of January 2020, consumers can travel with CBD products as long as they contain no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis, or that are approved by the FDA.
To ensure that your specific products fall within these guidelines, be sure to check the label before heading to the airport.
It’s also important to note that while CBD is legal at the federal level, certain state laws can vary. If you are at all worried, you can check CBD laws by state here.
International rules and regulations on CBD are less clear, so if you’re looking to travel abroad with CBD oil you’ll need to research the laws of the country you’re traveling to.
CBD is not only legal to travel with, it can also be extremely beneficial.
It can help travelers regulate their body’s organs, immune system, and neurotransmitter signaling systems, which can help alleviate symptoms of jet lag, anxiousness, and sleeplessness.
CBD can also decrease stiffness and soreness on long flights and drives, help regulate sleep patterns with time change and jet lag, and help decrease anxiety related to the unknowns of traveling.
Whatever your upcoming travel plans include, we hope this information helps determine which CBD products you’re packing with you.
Stay safe, healthy and well!
